There's a file called shnamp 202 which allows you to play the flac files through Winamp. You can't convert it but can play it. Of course there's always sound capture or live sound recorder which records them to wave while you listen to them. Works out pretty good.

The SHN and FLAC zips are gone for the time being.

You have to either download each lossless song file one at a time from the main show page, or get an FTP client and queue the whole show to be downloaded by FTP.

The second option is pretty easy - get FileZilla and you can click on the FTP link on the show page. That will take you to the ftp page - enter that URL in FileZilla and then all the files will appear. Select the lossless file you want, add them to the queue and the select Dowload Queue.

Will the original links for my lossless zips return and work again? I mean, they worked before, so why did they stop?

Thanks everybody, I will look into some of these options, though I'm not very "technically inclined." I must say, I do miss the "point and click" way that we could do it before the changes. Are the lossless files coming back ever?

Hey, doodle, if you're using Firefox to browse [and if you're not, why not?:-], you should get the extension/plugin Tyler mentioned. It's actually called DownThemAll, not download....

I was inspired to start using it by the recent sea-change, and now even if they brought back the lossless zip files, I don't think I'd go back to the old way.

The secret of making it convenient is to create a new filter in the Preferences that automatically selects the lossless files and the info files you may wish to download, such as the md5, txt and xml. That's pretty simple, just following the example of the built-in filters, and I came up with
/(\.(shn|flac|txt|md5|xml))$/
This seems to be more efficient, plus no need (as with the old method )to spend time unzipping the resulting file, downloading the info files individually, and then assembling them in one directory.

As to whether the zipped lossless files are coming back, it's my understanding from reading the forum that they're working on a way to do something equivalent to that [like zipping on the fly], but it was just taking too much room to store both the zip and the individual files, if I've got it right.

Hey Mr. Salmon, Thanks for that. Again, I'm somewhat technologically challenged (or stubborn), but my wife seemed to know some of what you were speaking of, so hopefully I'll muddle through. Thanks again!

You're certainly welcome, doodle.
There are plenty of other "download managers" out there for Firefox, IE, etc., and I imagine most of them have something like a filter to pick out a particular sort(s) of file.

For installing Firefox and DownThemAll, their respective websites are the best references.

To create a filter in Down..., start it going by right-clicking somewhere in the page, or using the Tools menu, and then click Preferences in the lower right corner. Then in the column of the Prefernces window, select the Filter icon, Add new filter. Give it a name ("Caption" -- I used LMA), and then using the built in examples to show syntax, type in the "Filtered extensions". Took me about 5 minutes to figure out, and I'm no whiz.
(Alternately, you can get to Preferences from the Tools menu, DownThemAll sub-menu.)

This all takes longer to describe than to do, and I'm glad I finally bothered. Could have saved much trouble over the past months that I've been hitting the archive ... I just downloaded 25 auds today, admittedly cooped up by the rain but doing lots else beside sitting at the computer, where before I was lucky to get 10 or 12.

[fixed typos in "DTA" extension name- mod]
